Y aquí estamos, de nuevo, con la pareja más carismática de las aventuras gráficas modernas; Rosangela y Joey, medium y espíritu guía siempre ayudando a los fantasmas descarriados a hacer su transición al otro mundo. Los casos resueltos en las anteriores entregas van tomando patrones comunes que confluyen hacia un antagonista que se dibuja con claridad y nuestra misión será seguir uniendo los cabos sueltos para llegar hasta él. Con esta ocasión, ya son cuatro las veces que les hemos acompañado en sus andanzas y eso se nota: la relación entre ambos personajes esta más que asentada en nuestra experiencia jugable. Esto es uno de los fuertes de la saga y se refleja en el desarrollo del juego.
Si algo se puede alabar de este para nada decepcionante título de Wadjet Eye Games es un guion muy cuidado, con momentos verdaderamente emotivos, al estilo de su precuela. Descubrimos cosas acerca del pasado de Joey, entretejidas en un par de casos de juego; un punto muy interesante, de agradecer. La dinámica de minicapítulos que veníamos siguiendo desde la primera entrega se ha diluido en cierta medida y las dos noches en las que transcurre el desarrollo del juego están hiladas de manera muy correcta. Seguimos estando ante un título que podremos completar en una o dos tardes sin problema.
Llegamos así al aspecto más pobre de Deception: su cara. Gráficamente, esta cuarta parte ha bajado el pistón con respecto a lo visto anteriormente en la saga, sobre todo si nos referimos a los sprites de los personajes, más pequeños y menos detallados. Los escenarios se mantienen a un nivel aceptable y los retratos animados de los personajes que aparecen en los diálogos acompañan muy bien a las voces. Voces que siguen siendo grabadas por el cast habitual de la saga, Gilbert incluido, y que, para ser una producción independiente, ofrecen una calidad de locución e interpretación notable.
El sistema de juego sigue inalterable, en una evolución que culminó Convergence y que funciona perfectamente teniendo en cuenta el género del que estamos hablando: la aventura gráfica clásica. Seguimos dependiendo de nuestro fiel ratón y le damos tientos ocasionales al teclado, merced al estándar AGS, para realizar búsquedas en la suerte de smartphone manzanil del que dispone Rosa. Combinaciones de notas y pistas en nuestra libreta completan un cóctel que, a pesar de que nunca será todo lo claro que se podría esperar, acabará por llevarnos en la dirección correcta. Sin cebarnos demasiado en este apartado, existen ocasiones contadas en las que nos quedaremos sin ideas a la hora de avanzar en la trama. Aun así, eso no nos detendrá y en la recta final de un nivel envidiable veremos el aperitivo de lo que nos espera más tarde, culminando todo con un juramento de ambos protagonistas. Llegarán hasta el meollo de los culpables de todas las muertes que llevan investigando desde hace tanto tiempo; y lo harán juntos. Eso sí, cuando Dave Gilbert nos traiga el esperadísimo Blackwell Epiphany.
En conclusión, Wadjet Eye Games sigue teniendo su toque. Blackwell Deception es una gran aventura gráfica —a un nivel bastante parecido al de su predecesora— cuyo primer contacto asustará a los habituales por su bajón gráfico, pero que aguanta el tipo y nos da lo que los fans queríamos: ración extra de Rosa y Joey. A todos los demás, haceos un favor y jugad esta saga. Es una gran historia, que sabe hacerte querer a sus personajes, interesante y divertida. El único pequeño tirón de orejas es que al modo comentarios, en esta ocasión, no se le han unido los extras, algo a lo que ya estábamos acostumbrados tras tres entregas.
Pese a todo, ojalá todas las decepciones fueran así.
